MUSPH is one of the four schools that form the College of Health Sciences of Makerere University, which became operational in July 2008. The other schools of the College of Health Sciences are the School of Medicine, School of Biomedical Sciences and the School of Health Sciences. The main responsibilities of MUSPH are training in public health, carrying out research and service delivery. MUSPH offers the following courses - Bachelor of Environmental Health Science, Post graduate Diploma in Quality of Health Care and graduate courses namely Master of Public Health (Full time and Distance), Master of Health Services Research, and a new Master of Public Health Nutrition has been developed. The school offers other short courses and its staff participate in teaching medical students undertaking undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, Bachelor of Dentistry and Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Department of Community Health and Behavioural Sciences (CHBS) The Department of Community Health and Behavioural Sciences facilitates various courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels in the areas of: Primary Health Care Family and Reproductive Health including Maternal and Child Health/Family Planning), Adolescent Health Health Care and Health Services Organisation in Emergencies Social and Behavioural Determinants of Health and Qualitative Research Methods
The department undertakes various researches in the areas of population and reproductive health and health care and services in emergencies. The department has been involved in running short courses for personnel UN agencies, NGOs and those in government ministries involved in emergency response. Courses offered in the Department The department annually runs a short course on Public Health in Complex Emergencies (PHCE). The department also coordinates the Master of Public Health Nutrition (MPHN) Programme. News from the Department The department will run the next short course - Public Health in Complex Emergencies (PHCE) during 3rd to 14th November 2009 in Kampala, Uganda.
