Periperi U African Risk Methods School 2019
West Africa faces numerous hazards and risks which threaten to affect millions of people across 17 countries. Drastically changing environmental conditions, increasing climate variability and change, frequent floods and droughts, rapid urbanization and population growth, impoverishment, pollution, disease and armed conflict, continually undermine development, security and prosperity in the region.
In the face of such complex, evolving risk profiles across the African continent, Partners Enhancing Resilience for People Exposed to Risks (PERIPERI U) together with partner organizations, including WHO, have come together to develop the African Risk Methods Schools (ARMS).
ARMS is an intensive, immersive opportunity for emerging academics, practitioners and scientists to rapidly build essential skills and enhance capacity in disaster risk. The courses offer complex, contemporary African risk and resilience research grounded in application.
This initiative is underlined by global landmark agreements, including the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, Agenda 2063, the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement.
