Lecturer position open at the School of Disaster Management at Stenden University


Stenden South Africa is a registered Private Higher Education Institute, acting as a campus of Stenden University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, that offers a BCom in Hospitality Management and a BBA in Disaster Management. Due to growth in student numbers, we invite suitably qualified persons regardless of race, sex, or religion, to apply for the post of Lecturer in the the school of Disaster Risk Management Purpose                              Lectures and researches within the areas of Disaster Management and Disaster Risk Reduction Responsible to                 Academic Head: School of Disaster Management Liaises with                       Senior Lecturers, other Lecturers, Education Support Office   Key Responsibilities
  1. Lectures and assesses students using a variety of teaching and assessment methods in given modules.
  2. Supervises research projects within the areas of Disaster Management and Disaster Risk Reduction
  3. Prepares and revises educational materials.
  4. Conducts own research.
  Main Tasks
  1. Plans and executes curriculum development and revisions according to a set standard.
  2. Assists in the development of new educational products.
  3. Acts as tutor in Problem Based Learning or lecturer.
  4. Initiates and supervises student research projects.
  5. Conducts own research, publishes in accredited journals and presents academic papers at conferences
  6. Liaises with external parties to organise guest lecturers and field trips that contribute to the learning outcomes of the modules.
  7. Ensures the students’ well-being at the campus.
  8. Any other tasks as required by the Academic Head: Disaster Management
  Qualifications and Competencies Required for the Position -       Master’s degree, in Disaster Management or Development Studies. -       Practical work experience in the field of Disaster Management or Developmental Work would be advantageous. -       Strong interest and experience in lecturing and research. -       Good planning skills. -       Good computer skills. -       Fluent in English, both verbally and written. -       Inter-culturally sensitive. -       Comfortable with the educational method of tutoring small groups.   More details are available on request from the Academic Dean, Dr Wouter Hensens.
