Homes gutted, over 250 displaced as several fires rage across Western Cape, South Africa

Fires destroyed several properties and displaced more than 250 people in the Western Cape on Monday following warnings of damaging winds resulting in the spread of runaway blazes.

Speaking to News24 on Monday evening, Overstrand Mayor Dr Annelie Rabie said they evacuated families in Sea Farm, where four properties were destroyed, and temporarily relocated them to Kleinmond town hall.

"Some went to their families and relatives in other areas. We have three families staying at the community hall. Many of the affected houses are holiday homes and are not usually occupied," she said. For more information on this please click here
